UltraFreight - The Ultimate Cargo Solution

Lufthansa Systems GmbH and Cargo Data Management Corp. present an integrated air cargo solution for air cargo carriers

The Air Cargo Forum 2000 in Washington D.C. (September 27-30) will be the venue as Lufthansa Systems and its partner, Cargo Data Management, roll out a work-in-progress version of UltraFreight, their new browser-based, Internet-enabled, integrated cargo system. The first version of the system will be designed for mid-sized airlines and will incorporate all the functionality required to control and manage an airline's air cargo business. The system is designed for both passenger and all-cargo airlines and is planned for release in the second quarter of 2001. Responding to the strong demand for a browser-based, Internet-enabled cargo system, both companies decided to combine their expertise to create a totally new cargo system designed to meet the needs of today's market place. The system has been developed by leveraging the cargo expertise and program management skills of Lufthansa Systems with the business logic contained in the Cargo Data Management air cargo programs.

The System evolved following a meeting earlier this year when airline executives representing 8 airlines attended a workshop in Frankfurt, Germany, for joint discussions with the UltraFreight development team, focussing on the shortcomings of existing cargo systems and functional requirements for future systems. The final result was UltraFreight, a robust and user-friendly cargo system for the new century.

To enable airlines to easily migrate to UltraFreight, this new system has been developed as a series of independent modules which facilitate the integration of other best-of-breed cargo IT solutions and system enhancements. The advantage of UltraFreight's forward-compatibility strategy is a significant product life-cycle extension and the protection of the customer's investment. When airlines wish to extend or expand their systems with UltraFreight components or enhance the total system by adding, for example, revenue management capability, Lufthansa Systems' middleware experts can assist in the development of these solutions.

UltraFreight's nine modules offer the following comprehensive functionality:

The modular design of the system will allow a carrier to implement system components as required and add functionality to match growth. In combination, the modules deliver a comprehensive cargo system that addresses the entire spectrum of air cargo business activities.

As the Internet increasingly becomes an integral part of global commerce, UltraFreight's browser-based architecture will allow carriers to take advantage of Lufthansa Systems' Application Service Provider (ASP) services to outsource their cargo system IT requirements. A carrier will thus be able to focus its corporate energy and resources on its core business -managing its cargo activities - while Lufthansa Systems provides Internet-based IT services.

Lufthansa Systems and Cargo Data Management are committed to the approach represented by UltraFreight. This commitment to the needs of the customer, backed up by global cargo and IT expertise ensures that the airlines of the world will finally have access to a system that meets all of their financial and operational requirements.
